Partnership
The Bradford Soccer Club approached the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury Council to identify a need for an indoor facility for soccer in this community. The club had already opened discussions with a private partner to build a facility and were seeking the Town as an additional partner. Currently this partnership proposal is still being considered, however, the Town has charged the Leisure Services Department to investigate the feasibility of an indoor facility in the community.
Proposed Location
A number of locations were discussed, however, the preferred site currently being considered is the mini soccer fields of Appreciation Park, immediately north of the Bob Fallis Sports Centre Arena.
Progress
A Sports Dome Steering Committee was established that included the Bradford Soccer Club, the private partner and members of Town staff who were to review and recommend direction. A Council update was presented in June 2009 outlining that a domed facility could fit on the proposed location. Issues surrounding flood plain and the building of additional parking would be required at this location. Additionally, approvals from various agencies including Lake Simcoe Conservation Authority and the Ontario Ministry of Environment would be required prior to the facility being constructed. Council also received preliminary costing estimates on site preparation and charged the committee to report back to Council in August 2009 on progress including costing and agreements arrangements.
