2010 Torch Relay for the Vancouver Olympics is coming to Bradford West Gwillimbury

On December 18, 2009, the Olympic Torch will travel through Bradford West Gwillimbury via relay. The Torch Relay will embark for the 34th time in its history, after starting back in 1936 when the Torch was relayed from Olympia to Berlin. However, this year will set a new record for distance travelled as the Relay stretches over 45,000 kilometres and makes its way through 1,036 communities.

In Ontario alone, there will be 2,900 torchbearers and will be relayed approximately 900 kilometres. Amazingly, the Torch will pass approximately 93% of the entire Canadian population within a one hour drive (33,504,700 million people). The tradition of the Torch Relay has forever been a way of uniting our communities and rallying as a nation.

The exact Relay route will be presented 1-2 weeks before the day of the event. Residents interested in applying for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to carry the Torch can apply at iCoke.ca, or rbc.com/carrythetorch. Coca-Cola and RBC ask you to come out and support our country and help make Vancouver 2010 a success.
